Great Places to Check Out in Monument!

The town of Monument provides a small town feel to the larger communities it serves. There are several locally owned businesses in and around the town that drive that point home. If you haven’t checked these places out, you should make a plan to do so. Here are just a few local favorites that give our kids another reason to come back home!

Serranos Coffee Company, (625 CO-105, Monument, CO 80132) Carl Nolt, owner and master roaster at Serranos Coffee Company got his coffee education working at a local coffee house in Seattle. Starting as a barista and moving through the company, he learned to roast, and then buy coffee for what eventually grew to be Seattle’s Best. Carl moved his family to Monument in 1995 to return to his coffee house roots, roasting small batch coffee. He is simply the best at what he does, and we are beyond lucky to have him close! Serranos has a drive-thru, but make a plan to stop in! Drinks, whole bean coffee ground to your specifications, merchandise, food and meeting rooms. They sell wholesale up and down the front range…it is that good!

TheWine Seller, (2805 Roberts Drive, Monument, CO 80132- located just outside town off Hwy 105 towards Palmer Lake) In 2000, wine rep/enthusiast Dirk Stamp purchased The Wine Seller and fulfilled his dream of sharing his passion: great bottles of wine. Dirk, and his assistant Matt, will guide you, educate you and set you up with amazing wines and spirits. Get on their email list for info on wine case specials, wine tastings, wine club and “wines of the week”. From the collector/connoisseur, to the novice, it really doesn’t matter what your budget is, they can steer you in incredible directions!

La Casa Fiesta, (230 Front St, Monument, CO 80132) Shawn and Mary Morris were raised in Hobbs New Mexico where Shawn’s parents owned and ran “La Fiesta” restaurant. Previously they created “Pepe’s” in Colorado Springs before selling it and opening “La Casa Fiesta New Mexican Restaurant” in Monument November of 1996. The whole family works there! The best Margaritas (you will have to pace yourself!) fabulous salsa, and great food! They have a year round covered patio, as well as an open air patio for beautiful Colorado days/nights. When the nights are cold, there is a fireplace inside and a gas pit outside. They even have a gluten-free Menu. Available for events and meetings, too!

The Coffee Cup Café, (251 Front Street, Suite 6, Monument, CO 80132) A breakfast must since 1978. This is Home Style cooking…there is no way to walk out of here still hungry! And it is GOOD! They are famous for homemade green chili, country style potatoes and their breakfast skillets. Also have a lunch menu with wonderful burgers and shakes. The service is fantastic. Local boy Ben Hibbard is the new owner. He grew up in Woodmoor and worked at the Coffee Cup through high school. He left to go to college and then try to forge his way in the music industry, returning a few years ago to be general manager and raise a family. A few small outside tables, a counter bar area, and a fairly recent expansion, you may still have a wait when church gets out on Sundays!

Covered Treasures Bookstore, (105 2nd St, Monument, CO 80132) If you have ever loved the movie, “You’ve Got Mail", then you have an appreciation for the independently owned local bookstore. Owner Tommie Plank opened this quaint store, decades ago in a century old historic building. A wonderful place to go for gifts as well as books for yourself. You can find puzzles, games, local historical books, recycled books…SO much to look through! Check their website frequently for book signings and book club selections where anyone is welcome! You will love this place!

The places that I have listed have been around awhile and are staples for our family. There are lots of other fabulous places to go in Monument for drinking/dining that we love (Pikes Peak Brewing, Back East Bar and Grill, Bistro on 2nd Street, Rosie’s Diner among them) and shopping (check out The Posh Pineapple, The Love Shop, Frog on a Limb Primitives, Bella Casa and the adorable Village Merchants!) Be sure to take some time to come up and explore Monument when you can!
